About Us

your ideas. your heritage. your museum.

Our Mission is to connect the community with its heritage through educational exhibits, programs and events.

The Everett Museum of History, previously the Snohomish County Museum and Historical Society, is proud to serve the Everett community reaching over 150,000 people per year through various programming including pop-up exhibitions, educational programs, special events, and partnerships. Since its beginnings in 1954, the museum has been located in several buildings but it has never had a permanent home – until now.

And with over 65,000 fascinating historical artifacts in our collection, we have a lot of catching up to do to show them off to our community! With the goal of opening in 2021, the new, state-of-the-art, contemporary cultural heritage museum will be located in a historic building at Colby Avenue and Wall Street in downtown Everett’s cultural district.

Our Vision  is to build a dynamic heritage museum for innovative exploration and experiential opportunities for all. We envision a community space where lively discussions happen; where the audience is always engaged in new ways – and where everyone has the freedom to see, touch, and participate with our history. We draw on the strengths of the past, present, and future of our city and community. We will enhance the community by providing appealing and innovative cultural heritage programming; engaging both those who have an interest in historical preservation, as well as those who are new to the idea – and entertain them with original and unique programs and exhibitions highlighting our extensive and diverse collection. Our organization continues to work to evolve and preserve the permanent collection for present and future generations, as well as grow the idea of what a heritage museum is to the community it serves.

Please help us reach our goal of a world-class history museum for our community by donating.

Our Staff

Barbara George, our Executive Director, came to the museum as a consultant in 2008, bringing with her nearly 38 years of work experience with non-profits in programming, administration, and fundraising.  She attended Long Beach State in Southern California, where she started her career in non-profit working for Braille Institute.  After moving to Washington, Barb spent 34 years creating programs, administering, and fundraising for Little Red School House in Snohomish County.  She credits her sources of strength as her family and the many good people in the community. As Executive Director of the Everett Museum of History, Barb envisions operations and capital budgets, which will provide a state of the art cultural museum in the core of downtown Everett serving Snohomish County and beyond.  “We’ll get it done by working together.”
